Types of Cooling Towers
Crossflow Towers
Air flows horizontally across the falling water. Hot water is distributed over the fill from basins on top. Easy maintenance with accessible fill media. Lower fan horsepower requirements than counterflow designs.
Counterflow Towers
Air flows upward against the falling water for maximum heat transfer efficiency. Smaller footprint than crossflow at the same capacity. Ideal for tight spaces and installations where efficiency is critical.
Induced Draft
Fan is located at the top of the tower, drawing air through the fill. Most common configuration for field-erected and factory-assembled towers. Efficient air distribution and reduced recirculation.
Forced Draft
Fan is located at the base pushing air through the tower. Easy access for fan maintenance. Commonly used in smaller packaged towers and applications where indoor installation is required.
